TikTok Discovered That the British Museum Can’t Take A Joke as Well as They Take Stolen Artifacts

If these videos were made in Egypt, the British Museum would have stolen them by now

As much as the British Museum’s benefactors have robbed, plundered and pillaged the world of its irreplaceable cultural artifacts, at least Indiana Jones managed to steal their catchphrase. “It belongs in a museum” has been the mantra of the U.K.’s national loot stash for nearly three centuries as it applies to basically any object owned by a non-Englishman.

The British Museum is the largest and most impressive collection of art and cultural artifacts in the world, but the collection methods themselves have been the subject of scrutiny since the museum was founded. Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver has extensively detailed issues with the museum’s custodianship of some of the most valuable Greek and Egyptian artifacts in existence, but as some Twitter and TikTok users have recently discovered, jokes are about the only thing that these tomb-raiding Limey Crofts won’t take.

After a pretty innocuous post showing a couple guys doing a British Museum-themed spin on the old holding-up-the-Leaning-Tower-of-Pisa picture got a Twitter user blocked by the museum’s official account, one TikToker took the liberty of compiling some of the internet’s best barbs about the stately stash house. @allie_202_’s ability to take great creative works from around the world and put them in one place might just land her a job at the British Museum.
