J.B. Smoove, Tiffany Haddish and Wesley Snipes Are Making Their Own ‘Magic Mike’
For anyone who’s been dying to sneak a peek at Blade’s “katana” since the 1990s, you might be in luck.
The trailer for Back to the Strip released yesterday, and the comedy about a group of male strippers getting the band back together in Las Vegas has already piqued some interest for the names attached to project — Emmy and Grammy-winning comedian Tiffany Haddish, Curb Your Enthusiasm’s J.B. Smoove and returning A-lister Wesley Snipes are all starring in what’s shaping up to be an alternative for Magic Mike fans who may have been unimpressed by the latest installment of the stripper series. Back to the Strip is set to premiere in theaters on April 21st.
Don't Miss
Kevin Hart is also slated to appear as a guest star, possibly as Snipes’ Little Wesley.
In Back to the Strip, A.P. Bio’s Spence Moore II plays the struggling magician Merlin who is urged by his mother (Haddish) to move to Las Vegas to follow his dreams. When Merlin arrives, he is recruited to join the legendary and retired all-Black male stripper group “The Chocolate Chips” by the appropriately named Mr. Big, played by Snipes. Smoove and comedian Faizon Love appear as the also-retired veterans of the group, and the trailer features some hilariously photoshopped posters of each group member’s face atop sleek, shiny, shredded torsos.
Seeing as Magic Mike was notably shy about showing its cast member’s members, thirsty fans of the star-studded cast shouldn’t get their hopes up for much more than some thong shots — though, as Leon Black tells us, “Everybody in the Big Johnson community knows that you can't wear underwear.”
