Fox Nation Is Paying Dan Aykroyd and Other ‘Saturday Night Live’ Alums to Get Drunk
Nice work if you can get it, Dan Aykroyd . Round up a few of your old SNL cronies, bring in Norm from Cheers, and then pull up a stool at the rail for a snort. You get the idea this is something Aykroyd and Jim Belushi might do on a Friday afternoon whether they were getting paid for it or not.
But oh, they’re getting paid. Aykroyd, Belushi, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Nealon, and George Wendt will be our tour guides for A History of the World in Six Glasses, a comedic docuseries for Fox Nation (!), suddenly in the laughs game between Gutfeld, the post-Super Bowl Roseanne special, and this comedy keg-a-thon. The six-part show will “chronicle the history of beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, soda and their respective impact on the world.” We’re pretty sure Wendt will get to anchor the beer episode.
Don't Miss
In addition to his salary, you have to think Aykroyd will find a way to sneak in a plug for his Crystal Head Vodka, a brand that remains his sole reason for having a social media account.
And who knows, maybe Wendt can move a few copies of Drinking With George, his ode to the pleasures of throwing back a couple of brews. We’re unclear on how Jim Belushi, shown holding a glass of wine in publicity photos, will get the word out about Belushi’s Farm, his legal weed business. But if Aykroyd is smart — and demonstrably, he is — he’ll rope in some famous guests to hawk their own lines of celebrity hooch. Hey Ryan Reynolds, what’s the secret origin of gin? Why was there so much tequila in Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson? Pour us one of those single malts, Nick Offerman! Heck, we can have Nealon do caricatures of the whole gang.
We can’t think of a better group of aging white guys to cover this crucial topic. One thing for sure, Blues Brothers 2000 fans — we’re not getting through six episodes without a round of “Hey Bartender.”
