Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock Almost Had A 'Speed' Romance
Ahh, celebrities, they're just like us – and by "just like us" I mean that despite being extremely rich, hot, and famous, they too cannot tell that their crushes like them back. In a new interview with Esquire magazine earlier this week, certified Good GuyTM and teddy bear news correspondent Keanu Reeves reflected back on his seemingly flirtatious interactions with his Speed co-star Sandra Bullock, recalling a time he seemingly shot his shot with the help of some very boujee snacks.
Roughly a year after Speed hit the big screen, Bullock and Reeves were hanging out when the actress offhandedly mentioned that she had unwittingly committed the rich person faux pas of never trying champagne and truffles, a fact that apparently caught her costar off guard.
“Really?” he recalled asking.
Don't Miss
“Nope, never had ’em,” Bullock replied before the conversation meandered elsewhere.
A couple of days later, Reeves sought to remedy this, riding his motorcycle over to Bullock's house with the aforementioned goods. “I just thought you might want to try Champagne and truffles, to see what it’s like," he told Bullock, who was painting her nails when he arrived at her doorstep. Although they enjoyed the snacks together with Bullock painting Reeves nails black, the same hue she had been painting hers, Reeves says he didn't stay for too long, as he had a date that evening.
Although the pair openly had crushes on each other in the '90s, facts they confirmed on respective appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show over the past few years, it seems their romance, unlike the bus in which they were stuck on, didn't speed by at or above 50 mph. Instead, it went extremely slowly and ultimately missed its target, much like the cruise ship from the action flick's critically-panned sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control.
When asked if he knew Bullock had a crush on him, Reeves told Ellen that he didn't and that “she obviously didn’t know I had a crush on her either." However even if things had gotten steamy between the two co-stars, Bullock says a theoretical fling probably wouldn't have ruined their decades-long friendship.
“Keanu’s a guy who, I feel like, is friends with every woman he’s ever dated," the actress also told Esquire. “I don’t think there’s anyone who has something horrible to say about him. So maybe we could have survived. I don’t know. But we didn’t have to survive anything. We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for a dinner and try to work together,” she continued. "And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being. Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not.”
So folks, take it from Sandra – if a hot dude comes to your door bearing expensive snacks, there's a good chance he's into you.
