Hero Sits In Tub of Bean Dip For 24 Hours To Save Favorite Restaurant
On today's episode of everyday folks taking extreme new measures to help their communities and beloved local restaurants in these strange circumstances, a daredevil by the name of Hunter Ray Barker proved he is the hero we need and deserve in these trying times -- soaking in a tub filled with bean dip for 24 hours to help drum up customers for his favorite food joint, northwest Los Angeles's Los Toros Mexican eatery, which has struggled to keep its doors open during the pandemic, according to NPR.
"We have a golden opportunity to grab the bull by the horns and support local businesses in a big explosive way and so why not?" Barker, a noted Taurus who visited the restaurant for family gatherings during his youth explained, seemingly prefacing several legume-related bodily events to come.
After hearing Barker's proposal to sit in a tub filled with beans for 24-hours in front of his restaurant, which was established in 1967 owner Nicolas Montano was seemingly very confused -- as most anyone would be after learning a stuntman wants to spend a day bathing in dip in front of their establishment.
Don't Miss
"I was like 'Are you sure? Are you sure you want to do this?'" Montano recalled. "And he goes, 'Yeah, I think it would be fun and it’s something I want to help the business.'"
Aside from Montano's support, Barker was not alone in his noble pursuit. During his 24-hour stew, the stuntman had several visitors, including a tattoo artist, who inked the restaurant's logo on his arm, and even pop star even Lana Del Rey, who posted a snap on Instagram posing next to the tub. "Don't ask why," she captioned the picture, featuring Barker - mid tattoo.
Yet even with what appears to be a glowing celebrity endorsement, not every element of his endeavor was so glamorous -- especially when nature inevitably called. "The big thing that people asked was 'What are you going to do when it comes to going to the restroom?'" he told Reuters, chest-deep in beans. "I do have a funnel that's connected to me right now so any time I do have to go No. 1, that is connected to a bag that’s attached to my body. For No. 2, that is a different story. We will just have to wait and see."
However, it seems this erm, extreme dedication although sometimes gross, may have actually helped win the hearts and minds of some passerby's. "He's going to sit in that for 24 hours, it's totally crazy," Los Toros customer Rick Brantley said. "I wouldn't do it but you know what? If it's going to help Los Toros and the community, I'm all for it."
So folks, a hero's got to do what a hero's got to do -- and sometimes a hero's just got to take a nice long soak in a tub full of beans.
