Our 2005 selves are screaming.
Shark Boy and Lava Girl Are Back In New Netflix Sequel

Rejoice, Zoomlennials! Our favorite fishy/fiery duo, Sharkboy and Lavagirl, are back and all grown up in We Could Be Heroes, a brand new Netflix sequel set to be released on New Year's Day, to the pure delight of my third-grade self. The film features the titular characters in their adult years, raising a super kid named Guppy. After aliens kidnap Sharkboy, Lavagirl, and the rest of the world's grown-up superheroes, their children decide to rescue their parents, using their powers to escape their safe house, "their mysterious government babysitter," played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and save the world, according to a new teaser trailer that dropped on Thursday.

Although 27-year-old Taylor Dooley is reprising her iconic role as Lavagirl, Taylor Lautner is sitting this one out. Sorry, Team Jacob fans! Instead, 64-year-old JJ Dashnaw, known for playing Brat's dad in Spy Kids picking up the part of Sharkboy, making for an erm, interesting age gap.

So how did this movie come about? According to Robert Rodriguez, We Can Be Heroes director and mastermind behind the Spy Kids series, the Covid-19 pandemic. "A lot of families have spent a lot of time together," he told EW last week. "I've been getting calls from all kinds of studios: 'Reboot Spy Kids.' 'Reboot Sharkboy.' Of course they want to. They're all sitting at home with their kids." This seems like the next best thing."

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be entirely clearing my New Year's Day schedule -- I know exactly how I'm ringing in 2021.
