'The Rats Were Crawling All Over Him': Bronx Man Falls 15 Feet Down Sinkhole

On today's edition of true stories that will continue to haunt our nightmares for years to come, a Bronx man fell 15-feet down into a sinkhole filled with rats, breaking his arm and leg as the rodents harassed him. Last Saturday, 33-year-old Leonard Shoulders was going about his day, minding his own damn business, when suddenly, the unthinkable happened -- the sidewalk opened up below his feet, sending him plummeting down into an underground cavern, where he was stranded for about 30 minutes until help arrived.

"As he was falling, he scraped his face, broke his arm and broke his leg," his brother said of the nightmare scenario to the New York Daily News. "He couldn't move, and the rats were crawling all over him. He didn't scream, because he didn't want the rats going into his mouth."

Nope. Just nope. Out of all the reasons not to scream at a horrific injury, the risk of rats crawling into your mouth sounds certifiably awful. Thankfully, firefighters finally arrived at the scene and brought him to the hospital, where as of earlier this week, he continued to recover from his injuries. "It was crazy," his brother recounted of his sibling's terrible week. "Crazy" -- the understatement of the century.

Soon after the terrifying ordeal, New York City's Buildings Department issued an order for the premises next to the sinkhole to vacate immediately, likely to prevent this nightmare-inducing scenario from happening to any other poor passerby.

Leonard, wherever you are, I hope you have a speedy recovery. I hope you win the lottery, get your dream job, and find your soul mate in a super meet-cute and Twitter-worthy scenario. You truly deserve everything good, especially after that, bud.
