Trump Rally Attendees Stranded Overnight, Some Hospitalized With Hypothermia
A Trump rally ended in a Fyre Fest, er, well, Tanacon, level disaster last night, leaving hundreds of MAGA-supporters stranded outside in freezing temperatures overnight with some being hospitalized with Hypothermia and other medical conditions, Newsweek reported. Following the President's Tuesday night rally in Omaha, Nebraska, some of the event's 21,000 attendees fared 31-degree weather, waiting for up to three hours until midnight for buses to take them back to their cars in a parking lot approximately three miles away. Throughout that time, paramedics took six supporters to the hospital, "'due to a variety of medical conditions," Omaha Airport Authority's police chief told the Omaha World-Herald of the incident. Even so, medics were available to help attendees, namely the elderly suffering from medical problems as they left the arena.
Meanwhile, President Trump had already departed the event, flying off in Air Force 1. "President Trump took off in Air Force One 1 hr 20 minutes ago, but thousands of his supporters remain stranded on a dark road outside the rally," CNN's Senior Washington Correspondent, Jeff Zeleny, tweeted last night at 10:21 p.m. local time. 'We need at least 30 more buses,' an Omaha police officer just said, shaking his head at the chaotic cluster that is unfolding."
Although officials from the Trump campaign said that they had adequate transportation to bring the president's fans back to their vehicles, they cited unexpectedly large crowds with slowing things down.
Don't Miss
"President Trump loves his supporters and was thrilled to visit Omaha last night," said the President's deputy national press secretary, Samantha Zager, in a statement. "Despite the cold, tens of thousands of people showed up for his rally. Because of the sheer size of the crowd, we deployed 40 shuttle buses -- double the normal allotment -- but local road closures and resulting congestion caused delays. At the guest departure location, we had tents, heaters, generators, hot cocoa, and handwarmers available for guests."
I guess the rally was too Big-ly for them to handle.
On Wednesday, the President's Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, shared criticism of the event during a speech in Wilmington, Delaware, saying that the incident, which left "older Americans and children," in the cold represents POTUS's approach to handling the Covid-19 pandemic. "It's an image that captured President Trump's whole approach to this crisis," he said. "He makes a lot of big pronouncements, but they don't hold up. He gets his photo op and he gets out. He leaves everyone else to suffer the consequence of his failure to make a responsible plan."
Yet the Democratic nominee isn't alone -- The Daily Show also had some critiques for the President surrounding the rally. "Snapped a selfie at last night's Trump rally!" read a tweet alongside a photo of a frozen Jack Nicholson at the end of The Shining.
Here's to hoping those with hypothermia make speedy recoveries. Just like Ja Rule at that famed festival gone awry, as it seems that they too were hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hoodwinked and led astray -- about the logistics of returning to their cars following the Trump rally.
