And Now, A New Twist To One Of Tiger King's Biggest Mysteries
Remember the early days of quarantine when we actually wore clothes that weren't sweatpants, collectively learned the TikTok dance to Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage," and were baking mere loaves of bread instead of entire upstate safehouses made of sourdough? Well, reader, here's a blast from the past: there's an update about everyone's favorite March binge watch, Tiger King, especially for Joe Exotic and the those who believed that Carole Baskin was up to sinister feline machinations.
A cadaver dog signaled that it smelled human remains near Carole Baskin's missing husband's lake house in the new ID documentary special, Joe Exotic: Tigers, Lies and Cover-Up, fueling rumors that the Big Cat Rescue founder was involved in her former husband's disappearance. Although Baskin, who we first spoke to before all of this, way back in 2014, continually denies that she was involved in the 1997 disappearance and presumed death of her former husband, Don Lewis, some viewers (OJ Simpson included) speculate that she may not be telling the truth since the release of Tiger King earlier this year.
While the dog picked up on a scent, former secret service agent and retired homicide detective, Jim Rathmann, who is featured in the documentary, says that he thinks its unlikely that a corpse will be found, citing 23 years of mud, low visibility, and the alligators living in the lake.
Don't Miss
"We are not going to find a body, but if Don, hypothetically, had gone through a meat grinder we are looking for soft bone fragments, clothing or maybe a tooth. Best case scenario is you find a tooth or bone that you extract DNA from," he said, citing the theory that Baskin ran her husband's body through a meat grinder and fed him to her animals. Detectives and divers dispatched following the dog's signal came up short, which they said was due to poor conditions. Still, Rathmann says he feels optimistic that "some not for profits companies" may help with search efforts after the show's airing.
This new information comes as Baskin, who is currently competing on this season of Dancing With The Stars, faces a lawsuit from Lewis' family, and is set to answer questions under oath surrounding his disappearance.
Although we may never know what exactly happened to Baskin's ex, in the meantime, we can at least watch her salsa her way to a potential victory on DWTS and follow the insanity that is Joe Exotic's Instagram account while we wait for a conclusion to this madness.
