'Release The Snyder Cut' Propaganda Took Over Comic-Con 2019
For decades, children dreamed of watching the Justice League come together to fight evil on the big screen. And then finally, in 2017, we got Justice League ... and it was butt. The disappointment so rattled some fans that they convinced themselves that Zack Snyder's originally intended version could salvage its reputation. So they started the "#ReleaseTheSnyderCut" campaign to drum up support for a new release of a movie no one cared about to begin with.
You'd think the little momentum this hashtag had would have fizzled out by now, but with the help of a $26,000 GoFundMe campaign, funded by a 479 people who I'm guessing mostly work in the Warner Bros. marketing department, fans were able to blanket this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con with "#ReleaseTheSnyderCut" propaganda. They bought billboards:
They bought bus stop wraps. They bought a plane dragging a banner emblazoned with their message: "WB #ReleaseTheSnyderCut Of Justice League."
You'd think they were trying to liberate the minds of an enslaved populace living under the iron fist of a tyrant. But no. Half of their money went to a suicide prevention charity, which is a noble goal, but still means they spent around $13,000 drum up Marvel-sized pop culture relevance for a movie we have all collectively agreed to not care about.
Meanwhile, Zack Snyder has been slowly releasing what will likely amount to the closest DCEU fans will ever get to his cut on Twitter. He recently revealed that Wonder Woman would have killed Steppenwolf in the version of the movie that he never got to complete. You remember Steppenwolf, right? He was that angry barnacle scrotum guy who wasn't Darkseid and did a thing or whatever.
