Praise The Sun! George R.R. Martin Is Writing A Video Game
In a blog post about the Game Of Thrones series finale, George R.R. Martin took it upon himself to casually reignite rumors that he's been secretly writing the story for an upcoming video game by Hidetaka Miyazaki, who is known for creating the insanely grueling Dark Souls series. So while we're going to have to wait a little longer (and/or until the heat death of the Universe) for him to finish the final two books in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series, at least we'll get an impossibly difficult game (probably about a bunch of Onion Knights) out of the deal.
This has the potential to be the most sadistic pairing of pop cultural icons the world has yet seen. One writes fantasy worlds that are harsh, violent, and unfair; the other makes video games wherein the average boss is a dragon whose organs are hanging out. If this game is actually getting made, it's going to be responsible for the smashing of more controllers against walls than any game before it.
The game will supposedly have an open world setting. You'll ride a horse from one kingdom to another to kill its leaders so you can take their powers. That's about what you'd expect from the guy who turned regicide and mass murder into a fun Sunday night romp worthy of Monday morning water cooler conversations.
