After Nearly 30 Years, 'Bill And Ted 3' Is Finally Happening
1991 was the last time the world was given the gift of a Bill & Ted movie. It was the exquisite, rapturous, spiritually fulfilling tour de force that was Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, and Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves have been trying to get a third installment made ever since. And after a failed Bill & Ted sitcom and a failed Bill & Ted animated show, after nearly 30 years of rumors and speculation, it's finally happening. Production begins this summer for Bill & Ted Face The Music, which is set to hit theaters on August 21, 2020.
Saying that the third Bill & Ted movie has been long in the making is one of the grandest understatements of our young century. They had a draft of this thing written in 2011, back when Keanu was so convinced that the movie was going in production that he openly talked about its imminent arrival in interviews. Cracked has been making fun of the protracted production since at least 2014.
Every few months, someone associated with the movie would suggest it was all this close to happening, that the script was just one draft away, that they almost had the financing they needed. They just kept talking about it until they spoke it into existence. And next year, after a thousand fits and starts, it will finally exist.
