I don’t think show-and-tell should have stopped with childhood. I guess you could argue that with Instagram, it really didn’t, but there still feels like precious few moments in adulthood to share something important to you apropos of nothing. What are you going to do, invite your friends over to look at your father’s old watch? That feels less like a hang and more like the start of a murder mystery.

Lots of people own something that’s particularly, specifically cool, even more so in context. Why wouldn’t you want to hear about it? Let me say now and forever: If you’ve got something awesome in your closet, yank that sucker out the next time I’m over. Tell me the backstory, the provenance, I’m all in.

ibiacmbyww 1y ago My mum's autograph book. She spent a lot of time in London in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and was something of an autograph chaser. If they could sing or play an instrument and were famous between about 1965 and 1984, my mum's got their John Hancock. Bowie, everyone from The Who, The Clash, The Beatles, and the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Debbie Harry, Pat Benatar, Iggy Pop, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, etc etc etc, all the big ones. She says the only disappointment was Rush, as they didn't have time to stop
