Breaking Bad changed television as we know it and even blessed us with a spin-off featuring one of its most beloved characters. Shockingly, though, that character was almost scrapped. In an excerpt of Alan Sepinwall’s new book, Saul Goodman v. Jimmy McGill, shared by Entertainment Weekly, showrunner and co-creator Peter Gould revealed that he worried network execs would find Saul Goodman “too silly.” His fears were quickly realized when AMC asked the Breaking Bad writers to eliminate the larger-than-life lawyer on the grounds that they “don’t like this character.” Thankfully, their plea was ignored. 

Meanwhile, The White Lotus is reopening its doors, and creator Mike White says that the upcoming third season will emphasize the “dark” half of “dark comedy.” In an interview with Time, White explained that the Hawaii and Italy seasons “were a rehearsal” for the upcoming Thailand season, and promised that it’s going to be “much, much darker.” Talk about a bad trip.
