The New ‘Rick and Morty’ Promo Hints That This Mysterious Side Character Hasn’t Been Forgotten
In Rick and Morty Season Eight, a certain special Rick and Morty side character may finally manage to escape Jerry’s brain. Now if only Jerry himself could be so lucky.
Of all the many different versions of Rick Sanchez that are or were spread out across the Central Finite Curve, countless iterations of the Rick and Morty star are doomed to be forgotten in the multiversal wreckage that follows Rick C-137 wherever and whenever he goes. Considering that Rick has proven himself to be more than willing to wipe out entire worlds on a whim and leave universe after universe behind him without looking back, you’d have to believe that only the most malignant memories have the ability to haunt the tortured genius, such as those ones concerning, Rick Prime, C-137’s original family or his personal “Vietnam” and the friendship fallout that followed.
However, as we may infer from a recent Adult Swim promo announcing the titles of the episodes in Rick and Morty Season Eight ahead of its May 25th premiere, Memory Rick, the version of Rick who jumped from Bird Person’s recollections to C-137’s consciousness before being marooned in Jerry’s mind, may be making a comeback in the upcoming episode “Hot Rick.”

Maybe Memory Gearhead helped him build something out of all those gears and springs that Jerry thinks are inside every piece of technology.
In the last episode teaser from the above showcase, we can see a rough sketch of a concerned Jerry explaining something of importance to Rick C-137 before the latter attaches a device to Jerry’s skull that seems to be able to project his memories onto a screen. As Rick and Morty fans who caught last season’s “The Jerrick Trap” will remember, when Jerry and Rick’s heads, bodies and minds combined in various chimeric forms following a botched Freaky Friday-style mind swap, Memory Rick, who had been laying low in Rick’s head since Season Five’s “Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort,” ended up on the Jerry side of the final mental separation.
Considering that Rick C-137 couldn’t last more than a couple seconds in Jerry's head without blowing his/Jerry’s brains out, the fact that Memory Rick has survived for two years while trapped inside the mind of a man whose understanding of the world is notoriously simplistic without offing himself is a testament to how Birdperson overestimated Rick’s resilience. Though we don’t know if Adult Swim listed the Season Eight episodes in chronological order in the above title reveal, if “Hot Rick” is, in fact, the season finale, expect Memory Rick’s return to be unforgettable.
