The TV Star Who Had a Sword Fight With Chris Farley While Peeing

Even just pissing, Farley was funny

Chris Farley’s friends and collaborators have shared a lot of great stories about the late comedian over the years, but even casual acquaintances have some funny anecdotes about the Tommy Boy star, it seems.

The hilarious Ike Barinholtz, who has starred in shows like The Mindy Project and The Afterparty, recently guested on David Spade and Dana Carvey’s Fly on the Wall podcast. In addition to discussing his time as a Mad TV cast member and Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, Barinholtz also revealed that he once had a memorable encounter with Farley.

“I got to meet (Farley) a couple times,” Barinholtz told Spade and Carvey, “and he was like my idol, I loved him so much.” While working as a busboy at Second City in Chicago, Barinholtz saw Farley on more than one occasion. “He would come in once in a while, and he was always so nice,” Barinholtz recalled.

“One night he came up to me and was like, ‘Hey, do you know where Johnny is?’” referring to his brother John Farley, who worked with Second City. “And I was like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s at this party on Lincoln.’ And (Chris Farley) is like, ‘You wanna go? Can you take me there?’”

Barinholtz and his friend took Farley to a house party, but on the way, the SNL star felt the call of nature. “I remember we parked, and we’re walking right under the ‘L’ track and Chris is like, ‘I gotta pee, I gotta pee!’ And I was like, ‘I gotta pee too.’” According to Barinholtz, even while urinating, Farley couldn’t not be funny. “We started peeing and I remember he turns to me, he goes, ‘You wanna play swords?’”

So Farley and the young busboy began playfully crossing their streams. “I kind of turned, we’re kind of, you know, mixing our urine,” Barinholtz recollected. “And he just kind of turns and just pees on my foot and he goes, ‘Ah, I cut your foot off!’”

“I remember laughing so hard,” the actor added. “I couldn’t metabolize what was happening.

Spade noted that the story “checks out” since it “sounds like classic (Farley) buffoonery.” After Barinholtz told the host that he was planning to show Tommy Boy to his kids soon, Spade rejected the idea that the movie is turning 30 this year. “I would never say anything higher than 15,” Spade joked. “That sounds sickening.”

When he rewatches the airplane scene in Tommy Boy, Barinholtz will likely be glad that his urological encounter with Farley didn’t result in any injuries.
