Kelsey Grammer Is Rumored to Be Begging His Original ‘Frasier’ Co-Stars to Join the Canceled Reboot

He may or may not be making some desperate calls right now

Frasier has left the building – and by building, we mean Paramount+. Earlier this year, the streamer decided that they wouldn’t be picking up the Frasier reboot for a third season, meaning that viewers hoping to enjoy the hijinks of Dr. Frasier Crane will have to get by with the 11 seasons of the original show, and the nine seasons of Cheers that he was part of.

But despite the fact that Frasier 2.0 was canceled, its star, Kelsey Grammer, seems oddly optimistic about the show’s future. Immediately after Paramount+’s decision was announced, sources claimed that the reboot was being shopped around to other platforms and recently, Grammer revealed that he feels “very positive” about Frasier finding “a better home.”

Grammer also suggested that, were the show to return, Sam Malone could be a part of it, since Grammer and Ted Danson are no longer on bad terms. Of course, Sam would keep having to make excuses for why no one can visit Cheers, since “that bar doesn’t exist anymore,” according to director James Burrows.

Now an article on RadarOnline has alleged that Frasier’s search for a new home may not be going as smoothly as Grammer made it seem.

Of course, we should keep in mind that RadarOnline is a gossip site, and Mediabiasfactcheck.com rates its journalistic credibility as “low,” which is basically somewhere between a supermarket tabloid and some graffiti found on the side of a men’s room stall. But the outlet claims to have spoken to an “industry insider” who divulged that Grammer is “having to ‘swallow his pride’ and beg his former co-stars to join the show to make the series more enticing for studios.”

The anonymous source went on to say: “Kelsey has a lot of pride and I’m sure it wasn’t something he wanted to do, but I’m also certain he felt he owed it to the characters and the existing cast to leave no stone unturned in making sure the show stays on air. He’s frantic in trying to find a solution to save the show and is pulling out all the stops.”

Since John Mahoney, who played Martin Crane, passed away in 2018, and Peri Gilpin, who played Roz, was a regular cast member in the reboot’s second season, the only other core OG Frasier cast members that Grammer could reach out to are Jane Leeves and David Hyde Pierce, who played Daphne and Niles, respectively. Pierce has pretty definitively stated that he doesn’t want to be part of the new series, but he potentially would have revived his beloved character for a one-off special. So would Grammer really keep pressuring him to return?

At this point, it would probably just be easier to grab a Jack Russell Terrier from a local dog shelter and come up with a storyline about how Eddie was secretly cloned.
