22 Movies People Loved As Children, Only to Learn As Adults That They Suck

We’re probably not going to shock anyone when we take the bold stance that movies made for children aren’t typically of the highest quality. That’s no shade on them, necessarily; there’s just no reason they should be. In fact, a kids’ movie that was too good probably wouldn’t be very successful. Children are entertained by clowns that pop out of boxes when you turn a handle. They’re not ready for Citizen Kane.
But children have a nasty habit of becoming adults, often fragile ones whose sense of self relies pretty heavily on protecting their warm memories of more innocent times. That means that, when they revisit their favorite childhood movies and find out how stupid they look to adult eyes, their worlds can come crashing down. Even worse is when they still think they’re fun but find out they’re a decades-long punchline. It’s like finding out everyone’s been making fun of your mom.
