Here’s Why ‘South Park’ Fans Keep Calling the Hawk Tuah Girl ‘Butters’

Haliey Welch has been a bad old bear

When Haliey Welch’s parents hear about her alleged crypto pump-and-dump, she is going to be so grounded.

After accidentally skyrocketing to internet superstardom off of a sexual soundbite in a viral video, Welch, arguably better known as “The Hawk Tuah Girl,” released the $HAWK cryptocurrency meme coin in December 2024, which ballooned to a confounding $500 million market cap before immediately plummeting in value. Just as fast, the incredibly gullible investors who poured their millions into the pockets of Welch and her partners shortly before $HAWK team Walked Tuah bank and cashed out from the rickety venture filed a complaint with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, causing Welch to abandon her burgeoning podcasting career and recede from the public eye for multiple months.

Then, this past Thursday, Welch returned the Talk Tuah studios to break her silence on the allegations that she ran the most obvious exit scam in the history of grifting. During her re-emergence, Welch told her fans that she never planned to run off with all their money and leave every single $HAWK coin that she hawked worth less than a penny and the whole profitable and controversial project was just an honest mistake.

However, South Park fans aren’t convinced of Welch’s pure intentions. After all, you can call insider trading whatever you want, but it’s still no good, stinking insider trading!

Welchs strangely familiar speech pattern sets her up perfectly to make an appearance as a long-lost, swindling Stotch sister on South Park, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone planted the seeds for Butters family being crypto scammers long before Welch spit on an invisible penis and subsequently shot her wad with a meme coin.

In the 2021 South Park streaming special South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID, we learned that, in an alternate timeline that the boys have thankfully avoided, Butters grows up to be a crypto grifter who is so dangerously powerful in his ability to convince rubes to buy his meaningless bits of code that he has to be locked away in a maximum security insane asylum. The boys accidentally unleash Butters — then going by the name Victor Chaos — onto their future when he continues his NFT rampage and ravages savings accounts and stock portfolios across Colorado.

Given her alleged career shift toward crypto-grifter-turned-crying-apologist, Welch could very easily play a blood relative of Victor Chaos who follows in the family business on another South Park special dealing with the science fiction-y, pandemic-ravaged alternate timeline that we havent seen since late 2021. But with bird flu on the rise and an anti-vaxxer in charge of the countrys immune system, we may see a Hawk Tuah NFT sooner rather than later.
