Worst Actor Nominee Jerry Seinfeld Leads This Year’s Razzies Selections
The biggest mystery coming out of this week’s Razzie Awards nominations isn’t how Jerry Seinfeld scored a Worst Actor nod for Unfrosted. The real confounding question is how Unfrosted didn’t make the shortlist for the year’s Worst Picture.
You’d think Unfrosted was a lock after scoring in so many Worst categories. Amy Schumer was recognized as Worst Supporting Actress for her unlikable turn as breakfast mogul Majorie Post. Seinfeld got a second and well-deserved nomination as Worst Director. And Unfrosted got a special nod in the Worst Screen Combo, nominated for “Any Two Unfunny ‘Comedic Actors’” — in many ways, the entire cast can consider themselves winners. Or losers. You get it.
Unfortunately for Unfrosted, this year’s nominee list for Worst Picture was dominated by sci-fi and comic book movies, including Borderlands, Joker: Folie a Deux, Madame Web and Megalopolis. Unless you count Reagan, the Razzies had no more room for comedies on its Worst Picture list for 2024.

Funny people found other ways to be disparaged, however. The Razzies took Jack Black to the woodshed this year, nominating him for both Worst Actor (Dear Santa) and Worst Supporting Actor (voice only for Borderlands). If that wasn’t humiliation enough, Borderlands was nominated for Worst Screen Combo as well: “Any Two Obnoxious Characters (But Especially Jack Black).”
Was this Razzie revenge for the way Black turned his back on Tenacious D bandmate after Kyle Gass’ unfortunate political joke about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump?
But Seinfeld still has a chance to be the night’s big winner, thanks to his multiple nominations for terribleness. “It’s not only a critic-proof movie, it’s an artistry-proof movie and an audience-proof movie,” said Matt Zoller Seitz on rogerebert.com. “If there was a thing called the IMDb Witness Protection Program whereby you could get your name taken off the credits of a particular project, this would be that project,” wrote Richard Roeper. “This Netflix film distinctly feels like a punchline in search of a movie,” according to CNN's Brian Lowry, “built on a soggy parade of sugary cameos that doesn’t provide much snap, crackle and pop.”
With those kinds of pans, a future Worst Picture nomination isn’t completely out of the question. There’s an Eggos movie out there dying to be made, and Seinfeld just might be the man for the job.
