20 Movies That Are Only Good Because of the Characters

The plot of ‘John Wick’ is paper thin

Like snowflakes and genitals, movies come in all shapes and sizes, and they don’t have to be firing on all cylinders in order to work. For example, a high-octane action movie doesn’t necessarily require thought-provoking themes in order to be enjoyable. On the other hand, a rom-com doesn’t need a chase scene. Ideally, it does, but unfortunately, not every movie can be Murdery Mystery.

In fact, a movie doesn’t even necessarily need a plot. As long as it’s got interesting characters responding to each other in interesting ways, that can be enough to carry 90-plus minutes of theater time. That’s why user klowyuwu asked r/AskReddit, “What story had a terrible plot but great characters?”
