Two Decades Later, ‘Simpsons’ Fans Are Still Horny for ‘Large Marge’

Some of the show’s devotees still can’t get over a certain ‘development’ on Marge’s ‘character’

In 2002, The Simpsons did something drastic to adult animation’s most moralistic mother that would shock the world — just look at those magumbos.

For the most part, Season 14 of The Simpsons represented a return to the show’s roots in a post-Jerkass Homer era when Al Jean, in his second season succeeding the controversial Mike Scully as Simpsons showrunner, brought the series back to a state of consistency and quality that it hadn’t seen since the end of the Simpsons Golden Age. However, there were some rocky moments in Season 14 that reminded viewers how much the show had changed since its peak, most of which strangely involved extreme changes to Marge Simpson’s body — like in “The Strong Arms of the Ma,” when Marge, in a bodybuilder’s steroid-induced fury, physically pins and sexually assaults Homer.

But for all the criticism that Marge’s out-of-character, out-of-her-usual-body moments garnered in their time, considerably fewer modern-day male fans are as upset about the Season 14 episode “Large Marge” as they are over the non-consensual gags in “The Strong Arms of the Ma,” and there are two giant, glaring, globular reasons why:

In “Large Marge,” the Simpsons matriarch, struck by a sudden pang of jealousy and self-consciousness regarding her body, goes in for a liposuction treatment. However, while Marge is anesthetized, the plastic surgeon mixes up her procedure with a breast augmentation meant for one of Mayor Quimbys interns, and Marge awakens to embiggened breasts that cause her constant inconvenience and earns her unwanted attention from Springfields many male perverts. Eventually, Marge has the procedure reversed — but not before flashing an entire expo center to save Homer and Bart from an elephant-related catastrophe.

Like most instances of an online community growing uncontrollably horny over a cartoon character, the revived interest in Marges modified chest during “Large Marge” seems to have originated with a recent 4chan thread where Simpsons fans shared both official and fan-made “artwork” for the episode that would make Marges Playboy spread look like an advertisement for L.L. Bean.

Additionally, as fans have pointed out, the above Simpsons promotional video contains a joke that didnt make it into the final cut of “Large Marge.” Apparently, the Fox censors didnt love the idea of a 10-year-old boy being unable to make eye contact with his own mother due to her massive rack.

Frankly, “Large Marge” was a passble Simpsons episode in its time that doesnt really warrant further examination almost a quarter of a century later, but thats never stopped a bunch of gooners on the internet from pitching their own all points bulletin.
