Two ‘School of Rock’ Cast Members Getting Married May Be the Only Good Thing in the World Right Now

Respect, trust and having appeared in a Jack Black comedy together are pillars of a strong relationship

While the world is mostly full of nightmares, and looking at any website or social media app that contains the news these days feels a little like cracking open the Ark of the Covenant, there is at least one good thing happening on the planet: two of the former child stars from Richard Linklater’s School of Rock just got married.

The 2003 comedy, of course, tells the story of Dewey Finn (played by Jack Black) an out of work rocker who lies his way into a substitute teacher job at an elite private school, and convinces the kids to secretly form a band with him.

Apart from the fact that Black’s character probably should have been thrown in jail and Sarah Silverman’s supposedly villainous character was 100 percent in the rightSchool of Rock is a delightful film that mostly holds up today. If you watch those kids playing their hearts out in the climactic musical number and don’t get emotional, then pack your bags and go back to the Skynet factory, you robot.

Angelo Massagli and Caitlin Hale were just 10 years old when they appeared in School of Rock. Massagli played Frankie, one of the band’s security guards, while Hale was Martha, who Black calls “Blondie,” the backup singer in pigtails.

According to The New York Times, the kids all bonded behind the scenes, attending school together on set and playing games with Black. And they all stayed in touch with each other after filming thanks to “a long-running group chat.” Massagli and Hale became reacquainted when they were both attending universities in Florida. Eventually a romance began, and the couple, now in their early 30s, just got hitched.

Which is incredibly sweet, but will likely also make a lot of people feel old as hell.

Nine other cast members from School of Rock attended the wedding, which became a mini-cast reunion. At the reception, they all danced to Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen,” which, as you may recall, was Joan Cusack’s principal character’s jam in School of Rock.

Black was invited to the wedding, but unfortunately, he wasn’t able to attend due to an “ongoing film project,” which may or may not involve standing in a barren green soundstage pretending to be in the world of Minecraft. The couple did say that Black reached out to them and “was so nice and generous with his words and definitely commemorated it privately."

Plus, to his credit, Black did reunite with his former students to play a concert in celebration of the film’s 10th anniversary back in 2013.

Massagli and Hale are no longer actors, so don’t hold your breath for a belated sequel in which Dewey reunites with his less-cute adult students.
