‘Family Guy’ Is Hilariously the #1 Feature on Viral Sports Edits

Peter Griffin has been in almost every popular sports highlight montage video in the past few months

Every sports content creator on the internet is currently crazy about Peter Griffin, and it makes sense — did you see him play center for the Patriots?

In the high-flying world of professional sports, certain moments live forever in the memories of fans everywhere. LeBron James’ chase-down block in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals. Nick Foles calling the “Philly Special” and catching a touchdown pass in Super Bowl LII. Freddie Freeman hitting a walk-off, come-from-behind grand slam to win Game 1 of the 2024 World Series just a couple months ago. These highlights need no introduction, as every avid fan of each sport has seen these clips at least a dozen times since the respective historic highlight. But for the smaller moments, the dimmer stars and the lesser highlights, a little extra entertainment value is needed to achieve virality and immortality.

Somehow, the many different sports edit-makers on social media have universally agreed that the best way to get millions of views on a highlight reel for Hedo Türkoğlu is to introduce each mash-up edit with a fitting Family Guy clip, and the results are every bit as brilliant and unforgettable as any championship run:

From what we can gather, the trend of sports content creators using Family Guy clips to introduce highlights started with TikToker crosbyprods, who used the Family Guy introduction to poke fun at controversial sports figures with famous off-the-field controversies, such as former NFL quarterback Michael Vick and his criminal conviction on charges related to running an interstate dogfighting ring. However, the format of “Family Guy clip transitions directly into highlight reel scored by YounginSoSleaze’s single ‘All 10’” quickly expanded to include the NBA and the MLB, as well as players with slightly less checkered pasts.

Considering that there are 424 total Family Guy episodes and thousands upon thousands of professional athletes with an archive of highlight plays available online, there are, theoretically, endless permutations of this meme – and I’m going to watch every single one.
