Quinta Brunson Roasts Rob McElhenney for Spoiling the ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’/’Abbott Elementary’ Crossover on Instagram

A new promo for the highly anticipated crossover event shows Brunson burning her collaborator for his Instagram leaks

On It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Ronald “Mac” McDonald isn’t exactly known for being able to keep his big mouth shut — playing both sides so that you always come out on top only works if you don’t tell both sides exactly what you’re doing.

On January 8, 2025, ABC will air the mid-season premiere of Abbott Elementary featuring the five main characters from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia in a unique crossover, which will be completed sometime later in 2025 when It’s Always Sunny Season 17 premieres and we hear the Paddy’s Pub Gang’s side of the story. That is (almost) everything we know for sure about the content of the crossover episodes, but, at any point between now and January 8th, the entire internet is one Rob McElhenney Instagram post away from scoring a major spoiler, and Quinta Brunson knows it.

In a new promo for the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia/Abbott Elementary crossover that the two show creators shot for Variety, Brunson roasted McElhenney for his repeated bean-spilling when McElhenney dared to say, “It feels like we've been keeping this secret for so long.”

“Because you posted a photo spoiling our crossover episode,” Brunson chided McElhenney for his “so long” comment before cutting him off every time he tried to spill more sitcom secrets.

As Brunson pointed out, yes, McElhenney was the first to confirm the crossover episode after sharing on-set photos of the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Abbott Elementary casts hanging out back in October. But to be fair, it was the Abbott side of the collaboration that revealed that the storyline will focus more on Charlie Kelly than the rest of the Always Sunny characters, and Brunson herself was the one to share that the crossover will be a two-parter.

Still, I suppose the biggest secret of all is that, after the viral Glaswegian Willy Wonka disaster brought Brunson and McElhenney together back at the beginning of 2024, the city of Philadelphia is finally getting a veritable sitcom all-star game featuring the best both shows have to offer. And, as his punishment, I think that McElhenney should have to ride 20 miles on Mac's Ass Pounder 4000.
