‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Season 17 Officially Wraps Filming

Rob McElhenney has confirmed that the final week of shooting has ended

The long-awaited 17th season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is finally in the can. Now we just need the bank to finally back Lethal Weapon 8.

Nearly 18 months ago, the surreal It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 16 finale “Dennis Takes a Mental Health Day” took us deep into the mind of the most calculating member of The Gang as he went on a quest to lower his blood pressure and kill Elon Musk. Since then, the Always Sunny fandom has been on a bit of a roller coaster as we mourned the loss of The Always Sunny Podcast, (mostly) celebrated the highly anticipated news of the show’s crossover with Abbott Elementary and continued to watch Rob McElhenney gallivant around Europe alongside his business and life partner Ryan Reynolds with bitter jealousy

Now, finally, McElhenney and his FX companions have completed filming for the next season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia after an almost intolerable drought of fresh Always Sunny content, and the welcome news couldn’t have come at a better time — we’re starting to get flu-like symptoms after so much time without new Always Sunny.

McElhenney confirmed that this week would mark the end of shooting for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 at Wrexham A.F.C.s match in SoFi Stadium on Tuesday, telling Screen Rant of his first TV love, “We just finished Season 17, or actually, tomorrow is our last day of production on Season 17. And then were wrapped.”

However, the welcome news was accompanied by a bit of a dour note, as, when asked about the future about the Always Sunny Podcast, McElhenney repeated what his co-star and co-host Glenn Howerton said of the fan-favorite companion shows bleak future. “I dont know. Well see. We never say never,” McElhenney responded when asked about the possibility of more podcast episodes now that another season is on its way, “Were all so super busy right now, but we love the podcast, and we love recording it. We love the show, obviously.”

Howerton previously admitted that he, McElhenney and Charlie Day decided to give up the lease on their podcast studio after The Always Sunny Podcast abruptly went on a year-long hiatus, and if shooting another season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia couldnt convince the trio to return to the rewatch pod, then we can probably assume that theyve abandoned the project.

Still, at least well get a whopping eight more It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia episodes before the show goes back into hibernation for four years. Dont forget to buy your Always Sunny Funko Pop digital trading cards in the meantime.
