Casa Bonita Was Evacuated Over the Weekend for Sewage Smells
Over at Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s massively renovated Casa Bonita, Christmas came early — and so did Mr. Hankey.
When Parker and Stone purchased their favorite Denver-area Mexican restaurant/entertainment megaplex in 2021 for $3.1 million, they must have known that they were purchasing a giant dump. Given the crumbling infrastructure and quietly deadly electrical work at the Lakewood, Colorado Casa Bonita location first made famous by the 2003 South Park episode “Casa Bonita,” the show’s creators likely knew that they would have to flush out a great deal of decay from the 52,000-square-foot cathedral where they made so many of their priceless childhood memories.
It ended up taking more than two years and upwards of $40 million for Parker and Stone to fully renovate and rehab Casa Bonita, so, with that much money down the crapper, you’d hope that the current state of the restaurant would be downright pristine. And yet, over the weekend, the Denver area Fox affiliate FOX31 reported that the restaurant had to evacuate the premises and close the doors due to a “nauseating” sewage odor.

Maybe that smell was just the reward for eating a high-fiber diet — wouldn’t that be swell?
On Friday night, Casa Bonita customers reported detecting a low-grade fart fume before it quickly became sickeningly strong, eventually driving staff to evacuate everyone from the premises. Thankfully, the unbearable butt stench only erupted toward the end of the night, and Casa Bonita closed just 15 minutes early. However, considering the fact that Casa Bonita is a tourist destination for South Park fans everywhere and not just a local haunt anymore, the disruption left a bad taste in some patron's mouths.
“We were trying to be as efficient as possible when we were there trying to, you know, get our orders in quickly because we wanted to maximize our time just exploring Casa Bonita,” one such customer told FOX31. “My friend, like, really had to use the restroom and she wasn’t able to. So, there was definitely some frantic driving to find a bathroom, you know, outside of Casa Bonita.”
“We wanted to see the cliff divers. We hadn’t seen them yet. And when we went to the base of the waterfall, it was overwhelming,” the customer lamented. “Terrible fumes were, were just everywhere in that area.”
The cause of the smell has yet to be publicly disclosed, but we have a sneaking suspicion that a certain disgraced Christmas mascot may have taken a dip. We all know that Ambien makes him act strange.
