Sheryl Lee Ralph Says She ‘Had No Idea’ the Paddy’s Pub Crew ‘Were Criminals’ Ahead of the ‘Abbott Elementary’/‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Crossover
Sheryl Lee Ralph definitely didn’t talk to Rickety Cricket, the Waitress, the Juarez family, Principal MacIntyre, Eugene Hamilton, Maureen Ponderosa, Bill Ponderosa, Ruby Taft, Roxy and The Waiter ahead of Abbott Elementary’s crossover episode with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
On Saturday, Ralph got candid about dipping her toe into the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia universe, revealing that the FX characters’ shady antics left her with one question: “What in the Earth, Wind & Fire” has been going on at Paddy’s Pub?
“I had no idea those were criminals, I had no idea!” Ralph exclaimed when asked about the shows’ collaboration at Wicked’s L.A. premiere. “The cast! They’re criminals! They do so many shady things! I had no idea!”

Though Ralph remained largely tight-lipped on what dubious deeds the Paddy’s Pub crew got into during their stint on the ABC sitcom — “They know how to steal. I mean, right in front of you, too!” she told Variety’s Marc Malkin — she refused to give up hope on the series’ not-so-beloved characters. More specifically, adopting a bold “I can fix him” approach to Kitten Mittens inventor Charlie Kelly.
“I love Charlie, and I’m going to teach Charlie a few things,” she continued. “Under my tutelage, Charlie is going to be alright.”
Though we’re sure the Rat King will appreciate Ralph’s olive branch, we hope she’ll take heed from those who have tried to help the gang before — and maybe watch Season Nine’s “Flowers for Charlie” before trying to salvage the world’s most infamous bar janitor.
