Here’s How Homer Simpson, Hank Hill and Elaine Benes Would Supposedly Vote Today

Does Michael Scott lean left or right? Is Donald Draper even able to vote?

Hank Hill almost abstained from voting for traditional Texas Republican George H.W. Bush over a shitty handshake, but many Americans think that he’d have no moral qualms about supporting a man who is famously grabby.

On this pivotal election day, British market research company YouGov knows that there is one issue that is on all Americans' minds as they make their way to the polls: Would Hannibal Lector be a die-hard Donald Trump fan, or would he possibly find Kamala Harris more palatable?

That’s why YouGov spent the lead-up to Election Day going to great lengths to poll Americans on how they believe over 50 fictional characters would lean in the 2024 presidential election, calculating the partisan divide between Carrie Bradshaw and John Rambo with pseudo-scientific certainty.

YouGov released the results of their fictional character voter poll earlier this week as they scored 54 fictional Americans from movies and television shows on their perceived likelihood to lean toward Trump or Harris, with the range of results stretching all the way from Liz Lemon to Archie Bunker:

As is the case any time fans decide to foist real-world politics upon characters from beloved franchises, YouGovs announcement about the perceived politics of these 54 fictional voters immediately sparked outrage among the fanbases featured in the poll. “don draper doesn’t fucking vote you idiots he stole a man’s identity HE CAN’T VOTE AND HE PROBABLY WOULDN’T ANYWAYS DON’T PISS ME OFF,” one Mad Men superfan ranted of the suggestion that Dick Whitman would be among the most MAGA characters on TV.

“The fact that Hank is rated so pro-Trump goes to show how people don’t understand the point of King of the Hill,” a Mike Judge enthusiast wrote of Hank Hill being the second-most Trump-loving character on the list behind only the indulgently racist Archie Bunker, adding of King of the Hill, “It’s a show about Hank continually overcoming his conservative upbringing in various ways.”

Another King of the Hill fan concurred, writing, “If you think Hank Hill would vote for Trump, I fear you missed the entire point of the show.”

Parks and Recreation fans also came out in full force to contest the results on Ron Swanson, whose libertarian leanings on the show placed him in between Homer Simpson and John McClane on the Trump side of the spectrum. “Ron Swanson is as anti big government as it gets. He would smell MAGAs BS from day one,” one such fan argued, “Plus, while they disagree A LOT, he obviously values his friendship with Leslie too much to vote Trump. Yall dont understand him like I do.”

Of course, there are plenty of characters whose placement on this list has garnered absolutely zero pushback – for instance, Elle Woods and Elaine Benes are clear-cut Harris supporters, as is Barbie, who, following the conclusion of her blockbuster movie, would probably wish to preserve her autonomy over her newly acquired vagina. On the other side of the aisle, there are exactly zero reasonable Sopranos fans who would kid themselves into thinking that Tony would be out canvassing for Harris, and Roseanne Conners extreme conservatism literally got her killed off of her own show.

But while Twitter users continue to pull their favorite characters to the left or right based at least in part on their own beliefs, theres one character on this spectrum whose perceived preference in presidential candidate is objectively, historically and indefensibly incorrect. As one user pointed out, “y’all have Scarlett O’Hara voting for a Black woman? reopen the goddamn schools now.”
