Chevy Chase Heckles Shooter McGavin

Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and… Chevy Chase? In an ad that seems to have flown under the sports world radar, the Caddyshack golfer is now mercilessly heckling putters from other comedies — namely, Happy Gilmore’s Shooter McGavin. 

Yep, it’s an unlikely pairing for a hot, impossible-to-buy collab from Travis Scott and Jordan Brand. But there’s Shooter, lining up for a putt to win a pair of Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low OG SP “Medium Olive” sneakers. “It’s easy!” promises a sign on top of a pile of shoeboxes. But then along comes Chase, chauffeured around in a golf cart by a grinning flunky deemed unworthy of dialogue.

“Oh, you’re going for the shoes! I get you,” hollers Chase, pointing down at his own Nike kicks. “I already won mine.”

“Good for you. Excellent,” says a distracted Shooter, trying to refocus. “Congratulations.”

“Damn!” says a golfer passing by to admire Chase’s shoes. “Those some crazy sneakers!”

“(Bleep) you,” replies Chase in what feels like an honest moment. Then he turns his attention back to bullying Shooter. 

“There you go, spread your legs a little! It’s an easy shot, (bleep)head!”

Finally, McGavin strokes his putt, an almost perfect shot that hangs on the lip but refuses to fall. “You f(bleep)ing…,” he shouts at Chase, laughing merrily as he drives off to badger someone else. Cut to the graphic for Scott’s “Cactus Jack” collection, followed by a soaring Michael Jordan logo. 

What?

It all seems like a lot of effort for a limited-edition shoe that sold out a day before Scott released the video on social media. The $150 pair is going for at least $400 on resale sites, no doubt driven by Chase’s magnetic star appeal. “All my clothing and furniture are Nikes!” the comic exclaimed on his Instagram.

But was this just comedy fantasy camp for Travis Scott? What’s the marketing strategy behind hiring Chase and Christopher (Shooter) McDonald? As Threads user @dino.luck wondered, “Who the hell is the demo here?”
