Charlie Day Laces Up the Dirtiest Shoes in Philly to Prepare Us for ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Season 17

Day dusted off his dog-poop-covered pair of Vans to tease imminent filming for new ‘Always Sunny’

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 is in the home stretch as the show prepares to start shooting later this month. It’s a good thing that Charlie is wearing his one pair of shoes.

The final episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 16 aired on July 19, 2023. Just nine days earlier, The Always Sunny Podcast dropped its 77th and what we now know to be final episode, meaning that, ever since Dennis tore Elon Musk's still-beating heart out of his ribcage, compressed it into a glowing diamond and swallowed it whole, the rabid and terminally online It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fanbase has seen no new content. As such, just as the gang slowly grew sickly while quarantined and sober, so has the Always Sunny fandom developed delirium tremens as we desperately await new schemes from the Paddy’s Pub Gang.

While we still don’t have a premiere date for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17, Charlie Day hopped on Instagram earlier today and delivered a half cap of mouthwash to ease our Always Sunny withdrawals, teasing us with a shot of him sliding into the stinking, shredded pair of Vans that have carried him through the first 16 seasons:

Day has famously worn the black and red Vans Sk8-Hi sneakers pictured in his Instagram promo in every episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadlphia wherein Charlie is seen wearing shoes. Those sneakers have stomped rats, deliberately stepped in dogshit and flying-kicked Mac out of the way of a falling piano, and later this month, theyll make their grand re-appearance on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia — along with the rest of the shows cast and their wardrobes.

The Always Sunny writers room started working on Season 17 back in August, and Kaitlin Olson has previously stated that, once her hit procedural High Potential wraps this month, shell have just three days rest before turning around and starting on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia again. Assuming that timeline is still accurate, that means that Always Sunny and Charlies shoes will hit the ground running any day now.

“This is like watching Superman suit up,” one Always Sunny fan commented on Days shoe video.

Another asked, “How has Vans not jumped on this crazy marketing opportunity?”

But no one could top Always Sunny star and Days real-life wife Mary Elizabeth Ellis, who wrote, “Put me in, coach! I can’t wait!!!!”
