All the Nice Things ‘SNL’ Alumni Said to Chloe Troast After She Was Let Go from the Show

Troast’s departure triggers an outpouring of support

The fun news that Saturday Night Live hired three new comics yesterday was dampened by another casting surprise — the departure of last year’s new featured player, Chloe Troast. While few were surprised by the exits of Punkie Johnson (she had struggled to break through for four seasons) and Molly Kearney (after two seasons, she ranked last among cast members for SNL screen time), Troast showed tremendous promise in sketches that featured her powerful singing voice and offbeat comic sensibilities.

While Johnson and Kearney were vague about the reason behind their departures, Troast made it clear in her Instagram post that the decision was not hers. “Unfortunately i was not asked back to SNL this season. I wish I was going to be back with all the amazing friends i made there, it truly felt like home. But it wasn’t in the cards.”

Current and former Saturday Night Live cast members responded with kindness.

“Still in the club,” wrote Ana Gasteyer. “Can’t wait to see where you go.”

“You’re a genius and a star and the people love you,” added Kearney.

“Chloe the orphan with an incredible voice,” wrote Marcello Hernandez.

Several saluting emojis surrounded Sarah Sherman’s “love u” message.

“Troast forever,” wrote Devon Walker.

“Love you forever,” chimed in Please Don’t Destroy’s Ben Marshall.

James Austin Johnson and Ego Nwodim left multiple heart emojis.

“Bigger and Better things,” wrote Chloe Fineman. “I love you so so much and you were a big big light this year. Chloe supremacy, always.”

Meanwhile, popular SNL social media accounts expressed their bewilderment over the firing.
