This FX ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Edit Turns the Gang Into Terrifying Chads
Whichever terminally online social media manager at FX decided to give the Chad filter treatment to the characters of the iconic It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode “The Gang Dines Out” deserves a raise. But how in the world did they forget to change Dennis’ face, too?
It’s a classic scene that’s been turned into a meme thousands of times throughout It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s domination of online comedy spaces. On a Saturday night at Guigino’s, the finest restaurant in Philadelphia, Mac and Dennis, out on their monthly dinner, have spotted Charlie and Frank from across the room as the gruesome twosome arrives for their anniversary celebration. Charlie and Frank clock their friends as well, though Frank declines to be seated next to the other pair of roommates. Dennis counters with a passive-aggressive gesture of wine, and Frank ripostes with an entire bottle. Mac, exasperated with the escalating cold war, locks eyes with Charlie from across the room, and they stare at each other aghast with confusion and concern.

Then, Charlie, Mac and Dennis all morph into stubbled, impossibly chiseled and eyebrow-raised Chads with uncanny jawlines and chins so proud and protruding they might just trip The Waiter if they so much as lean down to slip a book of matches under the chair. Or, at least, that’s how the official FX TikTok account remembers it:
Notably, FX didn’t Chadify Frank or Dee in the above clip, so we can assume that they are not true It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia sigmas like the co-founders of Paddy’s Pub. Thankfully, when Charlie traded his shares in the pub for a sandwich, he didn’t lose his right to be a Chad, so we get to see his features blasted with industrial-strength testosterone while he stares across Guigino’s in smoldering shock.
Hopefully, Rob McElhenney doesn’t have a TikTok account and won’t see this video, otherwise he might get a dangerous new idea for Mac’s next dramatic body transformation. We loved Fat Mac and Ripped Mac, but we worry what extreme measures McElhenney might go to if he ever decides to go full Chad Mac.
