Ironically, there’s nothing funnier than someone or something taking themselves too seriously. You can try every joke you know, but sometimes, the best way to make someone laugh is to come at them with the combined intensity and incompetence of a thousand theater kids. That’s the way a lot of the best “so bad it’s good” movies come off: as the passion project of someone who has no idea what they’re doing.
It can even be just a single scene in what might otherwise be a perfectly fine movie. “For me, it was The Happening,” user Bobbet2 told r/Movies. “The part that stuck out to me was right towards the beginning, where everyone started jumping off of buildings, crashing their cars, etc. The main thing that made me laugh was the guns spread all over the ground at people’s disposal to use. Uhm... where did those even come from? Can the plants make stuff just... appear?” (They later admitted that “apparently, it was the same gun, but the editing was too confusing,” and that’s still a weird editing choice.)
