Kevin Hart Wants to Be a Billionaire By July

This Sunday, Kevin Hart will be honored with the 2024 Mark Twain Prize in a celebration at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Maybe, by Monday, we’ll see the trophy up for auction – do I hear $1 billion?

At just 44 years old, Hart has little left to prove in his historic career. The stand-up mega-star, box office maestro and veritable endorsement mogul has seen a preposterous permeation throughout American culture, and he’s enjoyed a level of fame that few stand-up comedians, if any, ever achieved before him. Hart has three of the top ten highest-grossing stand-up specials of all time. His films have grossed more than $4 billion combined. He has a venture capital firm that’s involved in consumer products ranging from beds to energy drinks to cleaning supplies. He owns a chain of vegan fast food restaurants across Los Angeles. He has a personal protein drink brand, a supplement line, a tequila label that’s partnered with the Philadelphia Eagles and, of course, a multi-platform media production company that gives him creative freedom to make ill-advised projects like his non-comedic Netflix action movie Lift.

So what, then, does Hart still have to accomplish in a career that’s merged comedy and capitalism in a way that no other artist/businessman has done before him? Well, in a CBS Mornings interview back in 2021, Hart said that his goal is to be a billionaire by the time he turns 45, which will happen this July 6th, 2024. You think they can crank out another Jumanji movie in three and a half months?

“It’s not about the money,” Hart confusingly told Gayle King about his goal, “It’s about the title of a billionaire. What does that mean, how did you get there? What was your road to getting there? The point is about the other Black kids that are from where I’m from, from the inner cities, the places that are told that so much is impossible. Well, you can see it is possible. You can have a real eye-sight of someone that did it, that can talk to you in a way that you understand and you know.”

Though it seems contradictory for the comic to claim that becoming a billionaire isn’t all about the Benjamins, it should be noted that he’s still a few stacks short of a third comma – recent estimates put his net worth at around $450 million, or just north of the total gross of The Secret Life of Pets 2. That said, celebrity net worth estimates are notoriously unreliable, so we can loosely place him anywhere between the box office returns of Ride Along and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Hart’s Twitter bio reads, “My name is Kevin Hart and I WORK HARD!!! That pretty much sums me up!!! Everybody Wants To Be Famous But Nobody Wants To Do The Work.” The next three months will put that work ethic to the test as he hustles to scrounge up that second half-billion dollars by his birthday – maybe his buddies at DraftKings can help him with a hot tip.
