Neil deGrasse Tyson Will Evidently Guest Star on the Next Season of ‘Futurama’
On Thursday, New York Comic Con held a Futurama panel on its main stage. In addition to screening “All the Way Down” — the joyously mind-bending finale of the season that just concluded — its creative team offered an exclusive sneak peek and some clues about the show’s next season as well.
During a Q&A session with executive producer David X. Cohen, producers Claudia Katz and Lee Supercinski, directors Crystal Chesney-Thompson and Edmund Fong and supervising director Peter Avazino, Cohen revealed that, in the tradition of previous scientist guest stars like Bill Nye and Stephen Hawking, Neil deGrasse Tyson will appear on the show, presumably as a head in a jar. While deGrasse Tyson had previously been in a Futurama game, this will be the first time he’ll be on the show proper.
Katz also revealed that Bender meets a new relative when he returns to Mexico, being played by a major, but yet-to-be-revealed guest star. Meanwhile, Cohen promised that next season’s finale will link directly back to the show’s previous, much-beloved finale, “Meanwhile,” where Leela and Fry grow old together.
Don't Miss
Finally, they played a few exclusive clips from next season. One featured the Planet Express crew and a bunch of familiar B-characters getting shrunken down and tortured by a new species of alien. Bender also gets a new love interest during an episode where he’s running with the Buggalo on Mars. Most excitingly though, a fan-favorite couple will be tying the knot.
No, I’m not talking about Fry and Leela, it’s Lrrr and Ndnd, the horrible growling overlords of Omicron Persei 8, who will finally be reunited.
‘Til another cancellation do them part.
