We all love to bitch about a bad adaptation. Is there any feeling better than emitting a good “The book was better”? Any sensation more ecstatic than complaining about everything they left out of the Harry Potter series, the wooden performances of the Twilight saga or just everything about Avatar: The Last Airbender? It means you love a book so much that no adaptation could possibly live up to your standards. Also, it makes you sound smart.

So redditor Krebstar10000 turned the tables, challenging r/Movies to answer the question, “What is the best film adaptation of source material you’ve seen?” It didn’t necessarily have to be the most faithful adaptation, they elaborated. Maybe it brought an honestly kind of dull story to magical life. Maybe it condensed a 1,000-page slog into a rollicking good two and a half hours.
