'Blue's Clues' Steve To Grown-Up Fans: 'I Never Forgot You'
Nearly 20 years after Steve Burns, the original host of Nickelodeon's children's program Blue's Clues bid his band of loyal preschoolers adieu following a wildly successful six-year run as the show's presenter, it seems the series's now-grown-up fans finally got the closure they never knew they needed. In honor of Blue's Clues's 25th anniversary on Wednesday, fans just got a letter (erm, video message) from the now 47-year-old star, reiterating that even a quarter-century later, he “never forgot” those who helped make the series an astounding success.
"You remember how when we were younger, we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff?" Burns said in the clip posted to Nick Jr.'s Twitter account, which has since garnered more than 20 million views less than 24-hours after its posting. "And then one day, I was like, 'Oh hey, guess what? Big news, I'm leaving. Here's my brother Joe, he's your new best friend,' and then I got on a bus and I left and we didn't see each other for like a really long time? Can we just talk about that? Great. Because I realize that was kind of abrupt." he continued.
Don't Miss
"I mean we started out with clues and now, it's what?," Burns added “Student loans, and jobs and families? And some of it has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know."
Yet even amid his post-Blue's Clues adventures, which included dropping two indie-pop albums and one psychedelic children's album, appearing in a documentary about The Flaming Lips, and inadvertently flexing his sick interior design skills after the listing for his $3.3 million Brooklyn home went viral last winter, Burns says he always remembered adoring fans who helped him do the important things -- get the mail, jot down notes with a comically large crayon, and decipher Blue's ideal daily agenda.
“I wanted to tell you that I really couldn't have done all of that without your help and in fact, all the help that you helped me with when we were younger is still helping me today, right now, and that's super cool," the actor continued, singlehandedly making more than 100,000 zoomers cry like they learned their local drugstore is out of Tide Pods. "I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years, I never forgot you. Ever. And I'm super glad we're still friends."
