Tony Hawk and Lil Nas X Prove They Have No Bad Blood After TikTok Skateboard Session

Nearly a week after the phrase “nah, he tweakin'” stormed the Instagram feeds of every social media-using man, woman, and nonbinary person in the English-speaking world, it seems the controversy's major players – beloved skateboarder Tony Hawk and iconic musician Lil Nas X –  have no bad blood, taking to TikTok to clear the air in a new video starring their respectively fluid-filled products. 

“Hey, I’m Lil Nas X, and today I’m gonna be doing some airs, maybe a McTwist," he said in the now-viral clip, Hawk's blood-painted skateboard in hand. “Let’s go!” Yet right as the promised Lil Nas X skate show is about to start -- the rapper clad in a pair of his limited edition, blood-filled MSCHF Satan Shoes and a matching black helmet –  running towards the ramp, the scene cuts to skateboard legend Tony Hawk sneakily (or, well, not so sneakily) taking the artist's spot, where he proceeds to expertly execute a series of moves best described as ”sick," “radical," “gnarly,” or whatever slang Gen X-ers used at the skatepark circa 1993. 

After completing the impressive display, the scene cuts back to Lil Nas X, standing proud. “And that's how you skateboard. Thank you," the singer continued walking away, Hawk yelling “you're tweakin!” after him from off-camera, proving that all is fair in love, shredding, and peddling products tainted with bodily fluids (get your mind out of the gutter, reader). 

Now, for those of you not in the loop -- or, well, under the age of 35 -- the perceived tension between Hawk and Lil Nas X began last week, when the skater dropped a new limited edition series of skateboards in partnership with ultra-edgy water company, Liquid Death, featuring a deck coated in paint mixed with his blood. 

“I am deeply thankful to have a connection with my fans, and I appreciate how Liquid Death connects with theirs,” Hawk said of the endeavor in a press release. “This collaboration is taking those connections to a new level, as I have literally put my blood (and soul?) into these decks.”"

The generally positive reaction to Hawk's bloodboard, however, did not sit well with rapper, Lil Nas X. Earlier in the year, the artist released a pair of limited edition “Satan Shoes" in collaboration with NYC-based creative collective, MSCHF, which caught serious flack for their devilish theme -- tying in with the imagery of his new single "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" – and the fact that it included a drop of human blood. Amid accusations that the shoes, as well as the song, were examples of devil worship, Nike, too, took issue with the kicks, filing a trademark infringement suit against MSCHF, which was ultimately settled in the following weeks. 

As such, Lil Nas X took to social media to speak out against the backlash against him in light of the positive reception towards Hawk's venture. “Now that Tony Hawk has released skateboards with his blood painted on them, and there was no public outrage, are y’all ready to admit y’all were never actually upset over the blood in the shoes? and maybe u were mad for some other reason?” he wrote on Twitter. 

The artist further expressed this sentiment on Instagram, commenting the words “nah, he tweakin” on an Instagram post detailing the blood board and asking how fans felt about Hawk's pursuit. 

So folks, take it from Lil Nas X and Tony Hawk – blood is thicker than skateboards and satanic sneakers.
