Sen. Lindsey Graham: 'I Will Go To War' For Chick-fil-A
In a year defined by massive societal challenges – the Covid-19 pandemic, the devastating impact of climate change, and the return of murder hornets as some sort of twisted third-act surprise – it seems South Carolina Senator and certified doppelganger of Cain from Poltergeist, Sen. Lindsey Graham, has his priorities in check, speaking out in favor of a new Chick-fil-A at Notre Dame University.
Earlier this week, several media outlets including Fox News reported that approximately 180 students and faculty members at the university signed an open letter condemning the proposed addition of a new location of the chicken chain at the school's Indiana campus. “There are a multitude of reasons to oppose Chick-fil-A: its anti-LGBTQ+ activism, reliance on animal agriculture, and lack of accommodations for students with special dietary needs, to name a few," the letter reads. "Bringing Chick-fil-A to campus would run contrary to Notre Dame’s commitment to inclusion and desire to create good in the world. So, we ask that you remove Chick-fil-A from your considerations and instead consider other additions to our retail dining.”
Although the correspondence noted that there are currently “no plans” for any type of "large-scale disruption" over the matter, adding that they “wish to resolve this concern before it transforms into a larger controversy,” the South Carolina lawmaker was still evidently unhappy with this dissent, taking to social media to reiterate his unwavering support for the fast-food chain.
Don't Miss
"I have always thought @NotreDame was one of the greatest universities in America, if not the world," wrote Graham, linking to the Fox News article. “It’s disappointing to hear some ND students and faculty want to ban Chick-fil-A from doing business on campus because they disagree with the values held by the Chick-fil-A founders," the Senator added in a subsequent tweet.
Despite the small scale of this protest, Graham warned that the student's letter still sets a “dangerous precedent." “I want everyone in South Carolina and across America to know I have Chick fil-A’s back,” he continued. “I hope we don’t have to, but I will go to war for the principles Chick fil-A stands for. Great food. Great service. Great values. God bless Chick fil-A!”
Unfortunately for us secretly excited to see the Senator attempt to stage a Chick-fil-A militia, it seems Graham will not have to take up arms over fried chicken after all. The following day, Notre Dame announced that in August 2021, construction on the new chicken joint would begin, leaving the students' letter entirely moot.
