Kelsey Grammer To Reprise His Role As Dr. Frasier Crane For Paramount+'s 'Frasier' Reboot

Reader, do you hear the blues a-callin? You know, the jazz-y, extremely '90s sound that inexplicably makes you crave tossed salads and scrambled eggs? Well folks, I'm glad to let you know your ears are not fooling you. Weeks after reports first emerged about ViacomCBS potentially bringing back Frasier,  it seems a reboot of the classic sitcom is officially in the works, with Kelsey Grammer confirmed to reprise his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane, Deadline reported on Wednesday.

"Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I'd like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world," Grammer told the entertainment publication of his latest venture. "I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane."

Set to hit screens as early as 2022 for the media conglomerate's new streaming service, Paramount+, the move comes after years of speculation surrounding the long-running Cheers' spinoff heading back to TV, with some rumors dating back to 2016. Although Grammer, who reportedly led efforts to revive the series is confirmed to come back, the jury is still out over whether Hyde Pierce will return as Frasier's brother, Niles, with Deadline reporting that the actor has been "approached" about reprising the part.

"Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling," CBS Studios' President, David Stapf, said of the reboot. "There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can't wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount+."

So, folks, it's been a long 17 years without Frasier on the air -- and unlike shaving your head for your brother, bringing back a beloved TV show is "a gesture which becomes" more "significant with each passing year."
