George Romero may be gone, but rather appropriately, he's coming back.
Good News, Movie Fans: George Romero Left Behind 40+ Scripts

Last year, George Romero -- the visionary filmmaker responsible for O.J. Simpson: Juice On The Loose, Knightriders, and There's Always Vanilla, as well as some dumb zombie movies no one cares about -- passed away after a short battle with lung cancer. You'd think this would have put paid to his career, but it seems that we're going to be seeing a lot more from him in the future. We think we saw something like this in a movie once.

In a recent interview, Romero's wife, Suzanne Desrocher-Romero, revealed that George left behind dozens of finished scripts that could totally be turned into movies. "George was a prolific writer. He loved to write, and we have 40, 50 scripts that he's written, and a lot of it is very good. He had a lot to say, and he still does, because I'm gonna make sure that he does."

There are three projects currently in the works. The first is The Living Dead, a novel that Romero was in the process of writing when he passed away. According to the writer brought on to finish it up, the book is "a massively scaled story, a real epic, the kind no one ever gave him the budget for in film." The second is a movie that he shot all the way back in 1973 about, um, ageism, but don't worry! It's a cool movie about ageism, in that it's "scary ... but not a horror movie," and even features a cameo from the man himself.

And then there's Road Of The Dead, which sounds so goddamn good that we're just going to let Romero describe it:

It's set in a sanctuary city where this fat cat runs a haven for rich folks, and one of the things that he does is stage drag races to entertain them. There's a scientist there doing genetic experiments ... and he has discovered that with a little tampering, they can recall certain memory skills that enable them to drive in these races. So it's a demolition derby with zombies at the wheels, and of course the shit hits the fan. It's really The Fast and the Furious with zombies.

The Fast And The Furious with zombies.

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS WITH ZOMBIES.

We don't have a font size capable of emphasizing that description as much as we'd like. It's just ... perfect.

Road Of The Dead is currently "sputtering" but alive, according to Desrocher-Romero, but if someone gets the headshot and kills this project for good, between that and the fact that Capcom rejected his script for Resident Evil, we're going to consider Hollywood to also be dead for good.
